U.S. Open of Surfing on Thursday. Larsen finished second in his round-of-48 heat with a score of 12.74 in surf of 2-4 feet at Huntington Beach Pier. He edged out Haiku's Kai Barger (12.67) for a spot in the round of 24. Adriano de Souza of Brazil won the heat with a 13.76. Also eliminated Thursday was Lahaina's Dusty Payne, who posted a 8.83 to finish fourth in his heat.
